Concert Bio is a venture-backed early-stage startup. We are transforming humanity’s broken relationship with microbial communities (microbiomes), the world’s most important ecosystem. We are a building a platform to optimise real world microbiomes, combining monitoring, “probiotic” development, and environmental interventions.

We’ve started by transforming microbiome management in soilless agriculture - the practice of growing plants outside of soil. Think high-tech greenhouses and space missions (or tomatoes & strawberries if you prefer). Hydroponics is revolutionising how many crops are grown, helping farmers adapt to climate change and feed the world more sustainably. However, plants have evolved over millions of years to rely on their soil microbes. By taking them out of soil, hydroponics breaks that. We develop ‘probiotic’ products so growers can give the right microbes back to their plants. Our first product, Overture™, launched in November 2024. If you’ve eaten lettuce in the UK, you’ve probably already benefited from it!

We’re building a team of people passionate about solving this problem, doing great work, and excited about explosive personal development opportunities. Our labs and offices are based in London, at the Imperial College Translation and Innovation Hub. Our greenhouse is based at the Warwick University Innovation Campus.

Hiring process

At Concert Bio we always strive to be efficient of resources - especially people’s time.

If we think there might a good fit based on your CV, we’ll have an informal 30 minute online chat with you. We like to find out what motivated you to apply to Concert Bio specifically, what you can bring to the team, and what makes you interested in joining an early stage startup. This is also a chance for you to ask us questions - don’t be shy.

If we (and you) are excited after that call, we’ll take you forward for a formal interview. There’s usually two parts: performance (can you excel at the job?) and culture (can you excel with us?). We try to do these back to back to save time where possible.

For a technical/scientific job, the performance interview will probably be a technical assessment, run by and with some of our R&D team. We normally do our interviews in person, at our HQ so you can meet the team. The culture interview will be with our CEO, no more than an hour. Expect to get questions about what you’re looking for in your career (and even life generally!).

We typically make a decision within a week of conducting your performance and culture interviews, pending references.
